Any concert/symphonic song but i remember Slava was super fun. Can you share one of your favorite MHS Band memories? Sitting on the football field on water break during band camp and listening to Don’t Stop Me by Queen. What are you up to now? CU Boulder as a computer science major with a music minor. What are your plans for the future? Join a game dev team and travel around the world when i can. Do you have any advice for current and incoming students? Favorite music from MHS?
Every piece was my favorite. I say this because every piece taught me something new. These pieces set me up for success and pushed me to be the best musician I could be. Can you share one of your favorite MHS Band memories? My first day at band camp as a freshman will stick with me forever. I was feeling scared and shy. I was worried for nothing. The second I stepped on that field, I felt as if I was apart of the family. Everyone was so welcoming and accommodating. I was home. What are you up to now? I am currently at Fort Lewis College in Durango studying music education. I am two weeks away from taking my sophomore proficiency exam to determine whether i will continue in the program as a music major. Practice, rehearsals and music theory take up most of my time. So, if you wanted to find me, you should probably look in the practice rooms first. What are your plans for the future? I hope to move into an apartment with my girlfriend next semester and to continue on this path. As for the further future, I hope to get a job as a high school band director. I want to give my students a safe, loving and musical home just as my past directors have for me. Do you have any advice for current and incoming students? Music is food for the mind, body and soul. Keep that notion near when you are going through a rough patch. Music and the people involved will hold you up. You are a family. Take care of each other. |

It creates growth. And don't get into drama, might seem interesting at first, but can hurt people. Not worth it. And do self care, it helps a lot. |

Jake’s Jam #2 from the Unified Percussion Ensemble. Can you share one of your favorite MHS Band memories? There are so so many. But for me at least, the best moment are the ones that I got to spend with my favorite people. Every band camp (staying out late with the flute section), every festival, and every band camp (even when I had a broken ankle) will always be such special moments that I hope I remember forever. What are you up to now? I go to Front Range Community College at the moment, but I have my eye on a couple other schools for next semester. I also am a dutiful Starbucks barista. What are your plans for the future? I desperately want to get out of the state and I’m going to make it happen as soon as it’s safe. But beyond that I haven’t really been planning. Which could be a mistake, but if covid has taught us anything, it’s that plans change. Do you have any advice for current and incoming students? Don’t worry about the small things. Forgetting a note or missing a step isn’t the end of the world, and you will get better as you go. Just focus on the people and the moment and absorb as much of it as you can. |

Birdland. Can you share one of your favorite MHS Band memories? Winning first place in Jazz at Cañon City 2019 running on a collective 2 hours of sleep and no shower. None of the jazz kids were even remotely awake but somehow had a killer performance. What are you up to now? Studying at UNC Greeley majoring in Business Marketing. What are your plans for the future? Hoping to become head of advertising and digital marketing at a company. Do you have any advice for current and incoming students? Never overthink playing. If you are feeling stressed and practicing isn’t helping at the moment, sit back for a second and breathe. Find something you enjoy, take 10 minutes to do that to take your mind away from practice and then once calm go back to practice but remember that your worst critic is yourself. Every run through is a chance to improve. |

2016-17 Marching Band Show- Victorious/Tongue Tied/Centuries Can you share one of your favorite MHS Band memories? One of my favorite memories from band is getting to go to New Orleans, and play is all sorts of fun locations, getting to go to museums and all the fun memories I have from that trip. What are you up to now? I just recently got married, I am living in California and am about to start college. What are your plans for the future? My future plans currently just consist of college, I am not positive what my major will be just yet. Do you have any advice for current and incoming students? Some advice I have for incoming band students is to go for band and what ever else you want to do, I made band, dance, drama/musical theater, a job and track all work. It is a lot to juggle but just because you have something else you want to do doesn't mean give up band. Band has so many laughs and fun times. Every time you walk though the band doors something crazy happens. |
